Nyaya Bandhu (Pro Bono Legal Services) Programme

Launched in 2017, Nyaya Bandhu (Pro Bono Legal Services) programme’s primary initiative to establish a framework for dispensation of pro bono legal services across the country. Under Nyaya Bandhu, practicing advocates, interested to volunteer their time and services, are connected, via mobile technology, with eligible marginalised beneficiaries. The programme fulfils the objectives to encourage pro bono work by advocates and to provide quality legal assistance (advice, drafting, court representation) to the marginalized beneficiaries. To facilitate this initiative, Nyaya Bandhu Mobile application (Android/iOS) has been developed and also onboarded on the UMANG platform in collaboration with technical partner CSC e-Governance Pvt. Ltd.

To enhance and strengthen the outreach of the Probono programme and pro bono legal assistance work, law schools and students are being integrated within its fold under its sub module titled as “Pro Bono Club Scheme”. The primary objective of this scheme is to instil the culture of probono in the minds of youngsters, improve the efficiency and quality of pro bono legal services by providing assistance to pro bono advocates through competent law students.

Department has also approached Registrar Generals of High Courts to set up and integrate pro bono panel of lawyers in each High Court. To ease registration process, dedicated web portal has been developed wherein the High Courts can register the details of the interested Pro Bono Advocates.
